tCheck Cannabis Oil Potency Tester Update

tCheck Cannabis Oil Potency Tester Copyright BeyondChronic.com

I’ve been writing fewer articles lately, and one of the reasons is that some time ago I started to judge myself more (yeah, I know…I probably need more cannabis!), so now I tend to write longer and more heavily edited articles. So this is my attempt to break that habit.

Last year (wow, is it really that long?) we wrote about the tCheck and did a full product review. We were impressed with the unit itself, but a bit concerned about the accuracy and repeatability of its measurements. We’ve been a bit frustrated since then because we had some testing to do on the Levo Oil Infuser we wrote about a few months ago that didn’t seem to work properly with the tCheck.

Well, if there’s one thing we’re perhaps too good at, it’s patience, but finally tCheck has come through with a software update that actually checks out. It is properly labeled 2.0, because from what we understand it represents a newer approach to calculating THC internally, and it seems to solve the problems we saw before. Hint: if you can’t get the update, try a different WiFi login or a hotspot, apparently their software can be wonky with WiFi.

In particular, the new measurements (of our old products) not only check out with our calculated potencies, but also with published potency for a commercial product. So we’re seeing a number of approaches that verify the results. And apart from coconut oil, we also got results that matched our experiences with infused olive oil as well as Gold Dragon tincture.

The tCheck people are working on all kinds of new good stuff. I’m sure they’re celebrating right now, but the good vibes from getting past this hurdle will hopefully speed up things for their design team!

Old Hippie is a father of two boys and thankfully living in California where all this kind of thing is legal. He started smoking marijuana in 1967 in high school, experimented with mind-expanding drugs of all kinds, and then straightened out 15 or so years later to become an airplane pilot. After being diagnosed with depression in 2000, he lost his job and most of the following decade to prescription medications (such as antidepressants) which sapped his energy and will. Finally, a chance conversation with a friend led to a doctor’s recommendation for medical marijuana (MMJ). This changed his entire life, health, and outlook for the better. BeyondChronic.com is his continuing story. It’s also his way to provide experienced advice on using medical marijuana effectively and responsibly, as well as advocacy, activism, and support for others. Old Hippie teaches about safe use of cannabis edibles, Canna Caps, vaporizers, dosing, and even microdosing.

Hi old hippie, I really appreciate your reviews. You breaking down the tcheck has been great, as there are few solid reviews out there. Tcheck is set to release their newest model within a few weeks.

They’re selling an additional “expansion kit”, which seems to be a scale, and some type of alcohol, to test rso and other solvent based products. Do you know is the tcheck can test solvent based extracts or how to add a reagent so that the tcheck can do its thing. An additional 150 for the kit is a big ask, curious of your answer.

Thanks a lot

Have you heard anything about the delivery issues with the t2? All who ordered are being told units are shipping slowly in the last couple months, but we are not finding any user videos or reviews to support the claim that they’re going out. Lots of nervous customers starting to worry we will not see our device or money. Customer service response is abysmal.

Old Hippie, haven’t see additional comments…did you check if there delivery problems with the tcheck2? Also, I never saw an update on whether or not the tcheck2 was able to check solvent based extracts such as RSO. I have cancer and need to be able to check the potency of the RSO I get. I would like to find out this info asap so I can get on with my cure.

Dear Tammi,

Sorry, we’ve run into a few snags on this end and I haven’t been able to get to a computer, just my phone most of the time. So unfortunately I haven’t been able to update the website very much lately.

I don’t really know anything about the tcheck2 or its progress lately, either.

On the other hand, when Rick Simpson came up with RSO, he had no way to measure it either, he just figured out how to make it as strong as possible. So any hash oil, preferably from a good dispensary so it’s tested for impurities (and this usually also provides you with potency information anyway), should work fine as RSO. The best kind is generally found in syringes and is pre-decarboxylated (you can always tell because it should say THC content, rather than THC-A), and it’s usually 70% THC or more.

Best of luck in your fight against cancer! Nugs and hugs!
