Today Dave Brian, the editor of The 420 Times, asked me to write up the true story of the history of “420”. I took this as a great honor, but also felt the responsibility of getting it right. After all, 420 is their middle name!
I’ll let you be the judge of that: read it here.
But there’s just one little extra thing. It didn’t belong in the article itself, so I felt that this was the right time and place for it. It’s just one of those little…coincidences that seem to pop up whenever 420 is mentioned.
As I knew from researching the article, the original original meaning of “420” back in 1971 wasn’t actually “marijuana” per se, it was more like “let’s meet at the Louis Pasteur statue at San Rafael High School at 4:20 PM”.
Well, as I often do, I started reminiscing. In this case, about what I was doing in 1971. And that was the year I was traveling all over Europe taking pictures. And I spent a few weeks in Paris.
I stayed the entire time on the Rue Louis Pasteur!
