Mario Cuomo, three-term former governor of New York, died today. Because NY state governors are sworn in on New Year’s Day, it was the same day his son, Andrew Cuomo, was sworn in for his second term as governor.
But I’m writing here about this extraordinary quote I found in an article about him:
“Given recent attitudes, it would be a prohibition revisited, legislating what couldn’t be enforced, and creating a disrespect for law in general.”
He was actually talking about the possible prohibition of legal abortion at the time, but clearly it’s also a very astute observation about prohibition in general and cannabis in particular!
