So here it is almost Danksgiving. It’s the middle of the night here right now, and I’ve just finished making a special “emergency” batch of CBD tincture for Felicity.

Felicity gets quite anxious at family events, especially big ones like Thanksgiving when we get together with our older son’s in-laws. They’re quite a traditional and judgmental bunch, so you can imagine how well they get along with us 🙂 The thing is…Felicity is also afraid to get high at these events, so she usually undermedicates and ends up feeling stressed. Personally, I can’t stand these get-togethers unless I’m at least at a [6], because I need a permanent smile on my face and a strong feeling of “Yeah, whatever” to face the in-laws.

Anyway, I have a number of close friends that know the kind of medicine I’m looking for, and one of them picked up some amazing stuff, knowing I could find some good uses for it. It’s a strain called Abatiol that tests at less than 1% THC and more than 15% CBD, which makes it almost as non-psychoactive as hemp! I tried 6 heavy hits in my MFLB and never got high (regular readers may remember I always get high after 2 hits of “normal” medicinal cannabis), but felt quite calm indeed, for almost 4 hours.

So I figured it would be cool to see if I could whip up an instant tincture for tomorrow’s festivities. I took a gram of this Abatiol and decarbed it, then boiled it in 95% ethanol for 30 minutes (don’t try this yourself unless you know what you’re doing and what precautions to take), filtered it, and got about 1/2 ounce of some very dark and clear liquid. I estimate a dose at 5 to 10 drops under the tongue. I only made enough for 10 doses or so, so I’m going to let Felicity try it herself tomorrow. She can carry the tiny bottle around with her and take a bit more if she needs it. It probably won’t taste as good as properly aged tincture, but I bet it will work just fine!

For all of you out there, Happy Danksgiving to you and yours!

He started smoking marijuana in 1967 in high school, experimented with mind-expanding drugs of all kinds, and then straightened out 15 or so years later to become an airplane pilot. After being diagnosed with depression in 2000, he lost his job and most of the following decade to prescription medications (such as antidepressants) which sapped his energy and will. Finally, a chance conversation with a friend led to a doctor’s recommendation for medical marijuana (MMJ). This changed his entire life, health, and outlook for the better. Best holiday to you and Felicity. Hope the “Out-laws” didn’t drive you too crazy with their attitudes and that the food was yummy to help make up for the company. That’s always what I dream about in those kinds of situations. 😉

You are awesome! I’m answering this at 4:20 and we are just sitting down to eat. Thank you so much, and hope you’re having a great day too. Nugs and hugs!

I have a question about a tincture i stated, first i used 17 grams of decarbed dried fan leaves from 3 different strains, kush van stitch, sour diesel haze, and think different. Its all ground up and sitting in 7oz of 100 proof grain alcohol. Should i expect decent results if i wait at least a month?

Merry Christmas
Tim

Thanks i have about 4 to 5 more oz of fan leaf what do you think is the best way to use them, butter maybe?

Hi Old Hippie and Merry Xmas!

I too suffer from bad anxiety and A.D.D as an adult. Life has been difficult. Some THC strains work well for my ADD others make it worse. It’s always a hit or miss really, mostly miss unfortunately.

I’m looking for something to wake me up and allow me to focus because I’m in a haze naturally without the haze if that makes any sense 🙂 Have you heard of or helped people treat their ADD with CBD? I’m looking to improve mood as well.

Hope Felicity didn’t have too rough of a going, I know I had to deal with my family and I didn’t medicate for the same reason she didn’t. Need some CBD product but it seems here in so cal no one is willing to help with CBD, it’s all THC 🙁

Thanks for the good wishes. We had a mini party tonight and had my son and his GF over for dinner and a movie. We saw Hook, which I haven’t seen for awhile but seems to get better every time.

Anyway, I’ve personally had ADD since forever, so you’re in luck because I also understand how it works and why the usual drugs they give you for it (Ritalin, Adderall) work too. They speed up the brain’s thinking, so you can focus when you’re under stress. Otherwise, your mind goes kind of blank or fuzzy; it almost “seizes up” actually. So, it turns out that the best cannabis strains for ADD are actually sativas, the same types that enhance creativity anyway. Personally, I’ve found Sour Diesel or White Widow to be almost ideal for this, sometimes mixed with a little indica just to cut possible anxiety. the results are also very dose-related, which is why I shoot for a nice easy [3] or [4] as far as highness. So try your strains at a few different doses and see which works best. Nugs and hugs!

Hook ! Rufio !! Rufio !! Rufio!!

Love it.

Interesting because I’ve read high dose CBD works wonders for ADD maybe you should try it. I definitely would if i had access to it.

Also, Sour D is one of my favorite strains. Can never get enough when I have it maybe I am overdosing and using the wrong technique…my vape is out of commish until I get a new wand.so have reverted back to smoking now for some time. I know the times I’ve vaped I feel more healing mentally.

Im looking for high CBD strain for my Fibromyalgia, ADHD and anxiety. What strains are good for the East Coast? Thanks

Hi there, great site. I’ve gotten a lot of good information. I have a question I’m hoping you can answer. I use mmj for pain, anxiety, insomnia. I’ve been using Sour Diesel for night and works great, but will be gone soon. I’m considering a low grade Prophet which looks as if it’s teenier buds than they can sell as regular Prophet. Is this worth $135/oz and is it a good strain for sleep. I can’t afford the $300+ strains. Thanks for all your knowledge!!

Hi Debi!

I’m kind of surprised that Sour Diesel (which I use myself during the day) is working well for you for insomnia and anxiety, because as a strong sativa it’s generally considered to be very energizing. I know there are some people who respond “backwards” to sativas, so I’m wondering if you have any experience with indicas because they are generally considered to be perfect for pain, anxiety and insomnia.

I’m not familiar with the Prophet strain personally, and it seems to have varying reviews online. Since it sounds like money is tight, I strongly suggest looking around for an outdoor indica, which many growers and dispensaries sell cheaply, even with high quality buds. I’ve gotten terrific deals at around $100/ounce myself because so many people prefer to pay more, go figure 🙂 Nugs and hugs!

Old hippie!!I know it’s been awhile but did you find this recipe to work well?? Was it potent enough? How much alcohol did you use with your gram and what temp did you boil at for the 30 minutes??? Thanks!!!

Oh, yes, it worked great, but Felicity has had a weird reaction to alcohol and doesn’t use it very often. The full tincture article is here. It should be decarbed first as per the article, and for strongest results, use the least amount of ethanol that will cover the cannabis (plus a little extra because some will evaporate).

I mentioned how I made it myself quickly as an “emergency” measure, but I don’t tell people how to boil alcohol because, frankly, it’s a bit dangerous. Instead I warn them not to do it if they don’t know how to do it safely. So if you don’t know how…and you aren’t familiar with the many odd properties of alcohol vapors…please do not try this yourself!
