OldHippie, as he’s known on Reddit, is a father of two boys and thankfully living in California where all this kind of thing is legal. He started smoking marijuana in 1967 in high school, experimented with mind-expanding drugs of all kinds, and then straightened out 15 or so years later to become an airplane pilot. After being diagnosed with depression in 2000, he lost his job and most of the following decade to prescription medications (such as antidepressants) which sapped his energy and will. Finally, a chance conversation with a friend led to a doctor’s recommendation for medical marijuana (MMJ). This changed his entire life, health, and outlook for the better.

This blog is his continuing story. It’s also his way to provide experienced advice on using medical marijuana effectively and responsibly, as well as advocacy, activism, and support for others.

P.S. I am not Dave Schultz.
P.P.S. I am not just an old hippie. I’m deliberately keeping my “resumé” here somewhat obscure, but I think you can tell I have a classic academic background and that I’ve been writing for quite a while.
P.P.P.S. Nugs and hugs!

Well, your Reddit account is gone. Some people on some of the various subreddits (vaporents, eldertrees) have been concerned since you just disappeared. Your profile page on Reddit just 404’s.

Hi old hippie! You da man. I really enjoy reading your insightful comments on r/trees, as well as everything you’ve posted here so far. Keep it up please!

Love your blog man! Nice to know there’s a lot of other like minded folks around. Wishing you and yours peace, happiness, and good health from gold country.

I loved your article in issue #29 of Treating Yourself about Canna-caps. It is great to have someone like you to help spread the info about cannabis as much as possible to help all, both medicinal and recreational. I am getting a chance to check your site out. I have a recipe forum on my website and added the recipe with acknowledgement to you and your webstie. Feel free to post anymore that you want to, if you can or if you have the time. Or just let me know what if anything else you want me to post.

I have been to both TY expos and love all the work Marco Renda is doing for us. The survey on my website is Marco Renda’s and Treating Yourself. I was able to use along with the permission from Marco.

Thank you brother for all you do.

Hi, I’m not sure if my email went through but FYI when you try to send an email to you via your contact form it forwards to a new page that says “Are you sure you want to do this?” and there is no yes or no button so there is no way to know if the message is being sent or not.

Thanks, I had some problems with this awhile ago, but your comment gave me the impetus to fix it again. Please try our new, improved popup contact form! Nugs and hugs!

ok me again 🙂 The new form is on your contact page but not here on your about page. Also there is a broken image on your contact page now. Cheers!

Nice catch, thanks! I forgot all about the other contact form on the About page. And I’m scratching my head over the broken image…sigh. Thanks again! Nugs and hugs!

As someone who has been through anti-depressants, I feel your pain there. Bud is a much better combatant to depression for me personally. I am also a fan of your recipes! especially the firecrackers. P.S. see you on r/trees

Happy “High Day”, and pleasant vibe to you!
Are some what Spiritual? Do you meditate?

Before MMJ, I was much more spiritual and meditative…but that’s not a “drug” thing, it’s because I couldn’t get my act together to do much of anything, so I spent a lot of time in my own head.

we miss you over on reddit ( looks like some misguided fools reported you for posting links to your blog)… please rejoin!

Hello,
I am a mother of two beautiful daughter who have been suffering from uncontrollable seizures for 16 years. They have been on every med out there, multiply surgeries etc. and nothing has helped. I have been researching many thing to help them and have come across a lot of info on CBD that could poss help them. I would love your thoughts and wisdom on this and if you think it could help. Thank you for any advice you can give.

Hi there Cecilia! Sorry I missed this before. I’m sure you’ve heard by now that CBD oil works wonders with Dravet’s Syndrome and other seizure disorders. Please do yourself a favor and avoid the “legal” CBD now being sold in many places at inflated prices, because most of that is apparently made from Chinese hemp and I’ve heard terrible things about it. For the best chance of getting something that works, you’d have to find some high-CBD-strain hash oil extracted with anything except butane (which is what recreational users generally use for dabs). You want CO2 extraction if possible. You’re only going to find this in a medical marijuana state. Best of luck, and nugs and hugs!

Hi my dear..I’ve recently purchased a vaporizer for my flower consumption. I have read, here and there, about people saving their vaped dregs for some use or other…but I haven’t a clue what thy use them for.
You and your lovely other half, being the gurus of pot-dom that you are, can, perhaps tell me what the heck I can use his burnt up flower for??
thanks so much elle (plantcrone) BTW..your comments link isn’t being very nice to we readers..It took me several many tries to get my comment to send. And the ‘contact us’ directly ‘radio button’ link never would send anything, thus my spouting this on your comments side..

Reading the comments, I just am in so much inner pain for that mom of 2 young girls with daughters who suffer from seizures..I can’t imagine knowing that there is a natural herbal drug available but, because she might live in the wrng state, is unable to purchase what might cure her children of her seizures.
…were it I, I’d hie myself to one of the more flower friendly states.
It’s unconscionable.

When did people begin using plastic sandwich bags to package individual sales of pot?

What did they use in the 1960s when selling individual amounts? Lids, ounces, whatever.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Old Hippie –

My wife Kelly and I own emptycaps.com. I’ve seen some referrals come from your site. We just wanted to stop by to say hello!

Empty Caps Company

I have been using since 1963 and the only time I bought it when it wasn’t in a Baggie was at a Medical Dispensary.
