How to Make a Vaporizer to Bong Interface Adapter

Bong Meets MFLB

So now that I’ve played around with my homemade bong for awhile, I’ve already grown tired of getting way too high and coughing on smoke and thought about how I could combine the benefits of a bong (cooler smoke and easier on the throat and lungs) with the benefits of a vaporizer (no smoke, just vapor…and even easier on the throat and lungs).

The result was this magic little hose, which reminds me so much of the audio adapters and electronic cables I’ve been making for decades that I call it a Vaporizer / Bong Interface Adapter (please ignore dirty stovetop):

As you can see, there’s not much to it. On one end is the stem from my MFLB vaporizer, and on the other, this handy bong adapter from VapeWorld that’s even on sale right now. In the middle, 12 inches of 3/16″ID tubing, yet another 19 cent bargain from Ace Hardware. Feel free to get silicone tubing if you can, it’s even purer/safer/feels cooler. The 3/16″ size fits very snugly, so be gentle when putting it on; I thought 1/4″ might be a mite too big.

If you use an Arizer Extreme Q or Silver Surfer, Da Buddha, or any other whip vape, with luck you can simply put the end of your whip over the end of the VapeWorld adapter and you’re done. There’s not much vapor produced by the MFLB so a shorter hose is easier to work with.

How well does it work? It’s bloody insane. When taking small, slow inhales like I normally do with the MFLB, I literally can’t even feel the vapor going into my throat or lungs. That’s why the first time I tried this I got way too high…I thought maybe it wasn’t working or something and I kept going back for more! If you inhale “massive bong hit style”, then yes you will cough, but nowhere nearly as badly as with smoke.

As with any bong, you tend to take more than usual and probably lots more than necessary. If you want to microdose, I recommend sticking with the straight MFLB.

This is the big deal: Felicity can even use this rig without coughing up a storm (she still coughs, but very little). She’s never been able to smoke or even use a vaporizer before due to long-term lung damage.

Old Hippie is a father of two boys and thankfully living in California where all this kind of thing is legal. He started smoking marijuana in 1967 in high school, experimented with mind-expanding drugs of all kinds, and then straightened out 15 or so years later to become an airplane pilot. After being diagnosed with depression in 2000, he lost his job and most of the following decade to prescription medications (such as antidepressants) which sapped his energy and will. Finally, a chance conversation with a friend led to a doctor’s recommendation for medical marijuana (MMJ). This changed his entire life, health, and outlook for the better. BeyondChronic.com is his continuing story. It’s also his way to provide experienced advice on using medical marijuana effectively and responsibly, as well as advocacy, activism, and support for others. Old Hippie teaches about safe use of cannabis edibles, Canna Caps, vaporizers, dosing, and even microdosing.

Glad to see somebody wrote a guide to this, I do this at home with an Extreme Q and love it! A few things for people with different setups than this:

– For those with the Extreme Q, if you buy a second elbow piece(the part that attaches your hose to “Cyclone Bowl”, it comes in standard sizes and will fit perfectly, only costs 5$!)

– It can take a few seconds of pulling to fully heat up the herb in alot of vapes. So, for those with bigger bongs you may find it better to pull really slowly, fill the bong to the top with vape, exhale while cupping the top, then take a full toke. Otherwise I end up with a big lung of air the first pull.

– With the hose alone, its easy to pull slow enough for the herb to properly heat. Alot of people tend to pull way faster than needed when using a vape/bong combo, and can make for less than satisfactory tokes.

– Be careful, between a big bong and a vape, it can be quite expensive to replace stuff!

Goodluck frients!

Made this into two comments as the “Post comment” button dissapears on me with long posts

If it’s just a bowl, probably not. But the concerns about hot smoke reacting with plastic don’t really apply to vapor, so you’d probably be fine making a bubbler or bong for this out of a pill or soda bottle.

I got the Extreme Q as a gift but i don’t know jack about glass sizes 🙁 . Could someone please tell me what size the Extreme Q Adapter pieces (Elbow, cyclone) are? I’ve been meaning to get some sort of water pipe to use with my Extreme Q since the Vapour is a bit harsh on my lungs. Great guide by the way, I’ve been looking everywhere for something like this.

The elbow joint and cyclone bowl for the extreme q are 14.5mm, which is the normal joint size for bongs but if you have a 18.8mm joint bong you can just buy an adapterer. I find the best way to smoke it through a bong is to fill a bag and then attach the bag directly to the bong, this eliminates the possibility of pulling too fast and also makes it a lot more portable, even if its just across the room the extra reach is nice.
